The Evidence Officer maintains control of police evidence, prepares records of articles and valuables  received from investigation of a crime. The Evidence Officer prepares records that describe the article, name of the owner, name of the police officer who submitted the article and the reason for retaining it. The Evidence Officer issues retained items into custody of officers at the time of court trial, and releases lost or stolen property of rightful owners upon proof of ownership.

When an investigation requires evidence to be  examined and analyzed by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, the PBPD Evidence Officer is  responsible for submitting evidence and receiving it when analysis is complete.

The Evidence Officer is also responsible for planning, developing and implementing methods of operation, as well as disposing of unwanted articles, supplies and related property and evidence.
